Going anywhere nice this year?

By admin On February 6, 2012 No Comments

The resorts of Spain have once again topped the list of the UK’s most searched for travel destinations, just ahead of New York, while Estonia and Iraq were the fastest rising searched for destinations in 2011. That’s according to a new travel trends report from travel search site Skyscanner, which details the most searched for destinations on their website in 2011 and predicts the hottest travel spots in 2012. Some of the picks for 2012 include the Cape Verde Islands — which have opened to tourism over the last five years thanks to an increase in hotels as well as charter flights and package holidays. The Islands ranked third on the list of emerging destinations in 2011, proving there is now a strong winter sun rival to the Canaries in the mid-haul market from the UK. And if you want to take ‘alternative’ to a whole new level then, while starting from a low-baseline, the emerging travel industry in Iraq has begun to proactively market the country with regular flights now flying from Europe. For those with a more traditional outlook on their holiday destinations, Spain is still the no.1 destination for British travellers, leading the list of country searches and with four of the top five city & resort searches. While Spain’s enduring popularity may offer few surprises, it is the emerging nations highlighted in the Destinations Of The Future section that offer a window on how travel from the UK may look in 2012. Five Places in Spain You Have to Visit This Year

Five Places in Spain You Have to Visit This Year

(PRWEB) May 06, 2011

Jet2.com announce reduced flight prices to nine Spanish destinations as 2011 looks set to be a busy year for the country

Predictions are suggesting that Spain is back in favour with British tourists and, according to a report by the Post Office, it offers the best value for money on holiday essentials.

The popular destination beat the likes of Portugal, Italy and emerging Croatia to top spot. One of the other reasons that Spain is basking in a surge of popularity is because of a range of events and attractions well worth visiting this year.

Both mainland Spain and the popular Canary and Balearic Islands offer some memorable events and places to see.

Malaga Renaissance Underway

For so often anyone arriving in Malaga for a holiday will only notice its beauty through the window of the bus or taxi. This is because most people are heading off to the party resorts of the Costa Del Sol.

However, the city is making a comeback as a holiday destination in its own right. Earlier this year the Picasso Museum went through a refurbishment that saw many of the paintings, sculptures and drawings reorganised. Now the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is set to inject further culture into the city.

Whilst many of the more established cities initially spring to mind, Malaga shouldn’t be overlooked when looking for a cultural break.

Majorca Keeps Rocking

Last year was the inaugural Majorca Rocks which launched to a lot of fanfare. Having got the first one out of the way, the organisers have been busy making this year’s bigger and better.

Expect more big names like Plan B to bring in the crowds. It is a great way to ensure that any party animals don’t miss out on the action this summer.

Throw Tomatoes at Strangers

You’d probably get some funny looks and possibly a few angry responses if you did this on any normal day but 31 August 2011 in Bunol, near Valencia, is no normal day. This is the day when La Tomatina comes to town.

Locals and visitors alike will gather and wait as tonnes of tomatoes are unleashed, ready to be hurled at the crowds. It’s a messy day so don’t wear your best garb, but it’s a day well worth experiencing!

Michelin Starred Cuisine in Valencia

Often over-shadowed by its more ostentatious neighbour, Barcelona, Valencia offers many unexpected treats for visitors travelling through or staying in the city.

The Arrop seafood restaurant has seen a Michelin star awarded to its chef Ricard Camarena in 2010, meaning there are now six Michelin starred restaurants in Valenica. This should certainly appeal to any foodies.

The Quiet New Canary Island of La Graciosa

No longer are Canary Island holidays all about Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote. La Graciosa is attracting plenty of visitors to its relaxing and more sedate way of life. There are only 600 residents on the island that has soft golden sand beaches, whitewashed houses and absolutely no cars.

Jet2.com are now offering cheap flights to all of their Spanish destinations at a reduced summer price, giving you more chances to visit more of Spain.

Escape Down Under This Winter with Bargain Flights to Sydney

(PRWeb UK) November 6, 2010

The gateway to Australia and Oceania’s cultural capital, Sydney is one of the world’s most popular tourist cities and a great destination for anyone looking to escape the chilly gloom of the British winter.

The only downside is that Sydney really is a world away, something that may cause many to right off a visit to this vibrant, sun drenched city. Don’t be too quick to dismiss a winter getaway in Sydney though because, whilst they can’t do anything about the 22 hour journey, DialAFlight are currently offering flights to Sydney this winter for as little £695*.

Visitors can see the world-famous opera house, relax on one of the nearby beaches or kick-back in a vibrant central bar. There are countless ways to see the city – but, if you only visit once, here are four things that you simply must do.

Hop on the Manly Ferry: This scenic thirty-minute ferry ride will give you a fabulous view of the city harbour. Pick a clear day for the best vistas of Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, and some great photos opportunities. Once at Manly, there are some great walks along the seafront – try taking the path down to Shelly Beach for more fabulous views and the chance to see a Manly Penguin.

Bridge climb: For the more adventurous tourist, there’s a great way to see Sydney Harbour Bridge: Climb it. Organised climbs take place all year round; and, although the cost is steep and the period of preparation arduous, the experience is certainly worth it.

Watch a film under the stars: Sydney’s fabulous weather allows visitors to engage in plenty of outdoor activities, and one of the most magical of these has to be the Open Air Cinema. Close to Mrs Macquaries Chair in the Royal Botanic Gardens, this huge screen has the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge as a backdrop. The cinema gets sold out almost every night, so make sure you buy tickets early in advance and arrive early to secure a place.

Sunbathe on Palm Beach: Sydney is surrounded by beautiful beaches, but Palm Beach has to be one of the best. Just a short drive from Sydney Airport, it benefits from excellent infrastructure and is a popular stamping ground with celebrities and millionaires alike. Favourite tourist activities include taking a paddle boat down nearby Pittwater and seeing the area via seaplane.

*Quoted fare is for HEATHROW to SYDNEY, KINGSFORD SMITH, departing 12 February 2011 and returning 21 February 2011.

Availability on these special fares to Sydney is limited. Taxes are approximate & will be confirmed at the time of booking.

This Summer Brits Want City and Beach Holidays in Barcelona and Nice, Reports Holidays-Direct

London, UK (PRWEB) May 30, 2008

The main thing Brits want from their summer holidays is sunshine, but they also want activities and entertainment, which is why there is so much interest in city and beach holidays in Nice, Barcelona and other cities located on or near a beach.

With summer 2008 holiday bookings, leading online travel agency Holidays-Direct.co.uk (part of the Midlands Co-operative) has noticed increasing interest in city and beach holidays. City breaks in holiday destinations by the beach are receiving more bookings for summer 2008 than in previous years.

Jon Pearce from Holidays-Direct says: “On Citybreaks-Direct.co.uk site we have seen growing interest in city breaks in Barcelona and Nice – along with other cities where people can enjoy city and beach holidays.

“Barcelona is a great example of this, it offers great city activities from shopping to nightlife, but it’s also located by the beach, allowing holidaymakers to combine their summer beach holiday with activities in the city.

“The appeal of holidays in Nice is the same opportunity for city and beach holidays. But a holiday in France is very different from a holiday in Spain.”

Barcelona and Nice are not the only summer holiday destinations that offer the benefits of city breaks and beach holidays. Monaco, Valencia and many other European summer holiday destinations provide the same kind of city and beach holidays.

Citybreaks-Direct.co.uk website specialises in cheap city breaks while Holidays-Direct.co.uk concentrates on other holiday destinations. City breaks are not just short breaks, city breaks in Barcelona last from two to seven nights.

“Holidaymakers can enjoy a summer beach holiday on a city break, and the best part is that whether travelling with family or friends, there’s bound to be something for everyone,” Jon Pearce concludes.

About online travel agency Holidays-direct.co.uk:

Contrary to what most believe, travel agents do not always know best. They tend to steer you on the route of major airlines, which happens to be the most expensive. They neglect to inform their customers of the other methods of travel that are available to them, which makes sense because they will not make a commission if the customers go with a method that they are not affiliated with.

With that said, why use a travel agent? Be your own travel agent. The following information will tell
